66.86 % of the faculty hold MPhil/PhD degree
Student-teacher ratio is 37:1
The college faculty is actively involved in research.
These include:
Supervision of PhD students

Inclusive, disabled friendly and gender-sensitive campus
Fee concessions to meritorious students
Excursions, field trips and internships for enhancement of knowledge even if they are not included in the curriculum
Online feedback from students and other stakeholders gives a direction to the college for further quality improvement
Weaknesses:
Though Behala College offers 4 post graduation programmes, it is primarily an undergraduate college which focuses on teaching and learning activities rather than on research. Hence there is a limited scope in enhancing the research rigor on campus.
The college is affiliated to University of Calcutta and is bound to follow the curriculum devised by the University and therefore does not allow for flexibility in curriculum design and delivery.
The college has not yet established adequate collaboration and networking with industry and research organization for lab sharing, collaborative research etc.
Limited conscious effort for developing and sharing expertise for revenue earning purposes.
There is no auditorium for the students.
Opportunities:
The construction of a G+8 building may be a panacea for the present space constraint with respect to classrooms, laboratories and library
There is ample scope to collaborate with Universities in India and abroad and develop multidisciplinary academic collaborations, and faculty and student exchange programmes.
Highly qualified, efficient and committed faculty members lend an opportunity to partner with eminent institutions both nationally and internationally, to carry out certificate programmes, add-on courses, etc. They can create more teaching-learning material and e-learning resources.
More job-oriented courses can be introduced
There is scope for extension and expansion of the scheme ‘Earn while you learn’
The Alumni Association can enhance their engagement in academic affairs and career counselling of students. This effort will strengthen the social capital of the college with the alumnae.
More seminars and workshops on research methodology and entrepreneurship can be arranged.
Challenges:
It is a challenge to mobilise the grants and funding for pursuing research projects, particularly in the wake of limited fund available from UGC for research.
A large number of students of the college are from marginalized section and are first-generation learners. Meeting their educational needs poses a challenge.
The policy of automatic rise in intake capacity by 10% in all programmes have led to a mismatch between the intake and the institutional capacity
The distance from main road and the transportation cost thereof severely affects the number of admission of students.
2. Institutional Development Plan (for atleast the next 10years)
2.1. Vision [It is a declaration of an organization’spurpose, goalsand desired outcomes]
To provide education for knowledge, wisdom, emancipation and enhancement of capabilities. It envisions to follow the national and global trends in education so as to transform the future generation into optimistic, resourceful, responsible and committed citizens.

Short Term Goals:
Workshops to promote Research and Publication
Setting up of ties with more industries for more job opportunities
Strategic Plan:
Programmes undertaken by Behala College are skills-intensive and technology-based. To fulfil our mandate to Advanced Education and Skills Development as a conduit for meeting emerging labour market, our programmes undergo annual consultations with Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), whose purpose is to advise and connect with the academic process on its curriculum aspects. These annual consultations assure our students that their curriculum teaching pattern is regularly updated to reflect the developments in their industry and that they are gaining competency in the skills required for gainful employment. We are focused on the student's future. With technology rapidly advancing, the Behala College model of education will help students chart a sure path to their career and keep them in the know about changing trends in the professional world. The pattern by which the programmes are executed blend theory and hands-on learning, giving the opportunity to gain practical experience in-class and on-the-job. Students learn from professors with industry experience who know what skills are in demand. At Behala College, we recognize that not everyone who comes to us is looking for exactly the same thing, so we've created a guidance programme (Mentor-Mentee) to help students find the resources they need to get started. The guide to start includes how to determine the subject that would shape their future world. The advanced bridge course programmes would initially set in with the pace followed by shorter master orientation programmes that would make one aware of the current job prospect and the mode of activation.
Medium Term Goals:
Short Term Certificate and Diploma Courses
Develop a sustainable momentum in Research and Publication through workshops on Patents and Copyright, national/international seminar/conference, MoUs
Pursue sanctioned and pending development works
Proposals for new development works
Strategic Plan:
The power of choice is the strength of the Choice Based Credit System. In view of this, the College would expand existing programmes to accommodate student feedback for Honours programmes to facilitate their career goals. Appropriate permissions, library and faculty resources as also classroom space will be put in place. Short Term Diploma and Certificate Courses as also coaching for competitive exams to develop additional skill sets to enhance student employability will be run simultaneously.

The College will plan for national/international seminar/conference to create opportunities to network and collaborate with researchers, while simultaneously encouraging participation in workshops/conferences and seminars with the expressed intent to assist in sharing their ideas, insights, and findings that will eventually culminate in publishing of their papers. MoUs with Colleges/Centers for Research to promote collaborative research, besides sharing of Laboratory and Library facilities will also be inked.
Development of infrastructure is essential to expand the choices of students’ vis à vis course and paper choices ,as also facilities for their leisure and recreation activities. To achieve this, the College will actively pursue the pending projects while additionally initiating new developmental projects to overcome infrastructural constraints. Training in appropriate use of incinerators to be part the Orientation Programme. The College strength is expanding consistently:space—both built-up and open—becomes crucial to accommodate the students in providing new courses/added papers, leisure and recreational facilities.

Strategic Planning:
Providing choices for new courses continues to be the focus of the College. Appropriate permissions, feasibility study, library resources will be concretized.
Green cover enhancement and green fuel are twinning opportunities for the College.Work has already begun in this direction and the College will seek to push through projects that will promote green options as a way of life.
The IQAC has recommended for a special rest room for differently abled teachers.
The Governing Body has resolved to open an Accident Benefit Insurance Policy for students with National Insurance.
